The Coquille Tribe announced a $100,000 donation to Southwestern Oregon Community College.

The money will go toward a new health and science technology building on campus. The tribe's donation puts the college closer to the $8 million needed for its share of the $16 million project.

“Educating more health-care professionals is a vital need on the South Coast,” Chairperson Brenda Meade said in a press release. “It’s important not only to our quality of life, but also to the community’s ability to develop and sustain a strong economy.”

The money comes from the Coquille Tribal Community Fund. The grant will be distributed over three years, according to the February 2016 issue of the tribe's newsletter.
