Two films in Native languages submitted to Academy Awards

Two Native language films are representing the nations of Guatemala and Venezuela in the Academy Awards.

Guatemala chose Ixcanul as its official selection for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. The film is presented mostly in Kaqchikel, one of the Maya languages.

Venezuela's official selection is DAUNA. Lo que lleva el rio. The film is primarily in Warao, the language of the Warao people.

The nominees for Best Foreign Film will be chosen from the films submitted by nations outside of the United States.
