Anthony "Tony" Lossiah, a police officer for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Lossiah, 38, died on October 6 after suffering an injury on duty. He was chasing a suspect in August when he tore a muscle in his hip that led to complications.

"He was a good man," Sgt. Rodney Starlin said at the funeral service, WLOS reported "He spent most of his adult life serving our community."

Lossiah, who was a tribal member, spent 17 years in law enforcement on the reservation. He leaves behind a wife and five children.
