The Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas is facing "challenging times" due to the actions of two former leaders, Chairman Lester Randall said. A complaint filed in tribal court on August 12 accuses former chairman Steve Cadue of breaching his fiduciary duties by failing to address budget and revenue concerns running in the millions of dollars. A second complaint was filed against former treasurer Bobbi Darnell on August 17, accusing her of violating her duties in handling the budget. "The Kickapoo Tribe is facing some challenging times due to actions of these former council members and the current tribal council members are working hard to rebuild trust with our members," Randall said in a press release. "This action will bring about a level of accountability that our members are asking for as well." Cadue, who was ousted from the council in January, disputes the accusations. He said Randall, who became chairman in October 2014, isn't following tribal law or procedure. "This filing by Lester Randall, the tribal chairman, is an abuse of power," Cadue told the paper in reference to the complaint against him. “It shows negligence and ignorance of the laws of the Kickapoo Nation. Cadue was serving as a member of the council at the time of his removal. Prior to that, he had served as chairman several times over the last 30 years. Get the Story:
