Thomas J. Schlicker, the former police chief for the Swinomish Tribe of Washington, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $30,000.

Schlicker, who was indicted in March, admitted that he set up a secret bank account and deposited tribal funds into it. He withdrew the money for personal purposes and also used a tribal credit card for personal purposes, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The crimes occurred between 2008 and 2014. Schlicker worked for the tribe for 17 years until he was fired last September.

Schlicker faces a sentence of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
