UFC extends new deal to Michaud

Lakota Country Times editor PINE RIDGE— Despite coming off a tough loss to rising star Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Pine Ridge’s David “Bull Dawg” Michaud has been resigned by the Ultimate Fighting Championship to a new four-fight deal. “I wasn’t expecting this. Most times it’s pretty rare for the UFC to re-up with a fighter after a loss. I’m excited about it though, the higher ups must have seen something they liked in my fights. So I plan on keeping up the hard work I been putting in and show the UFC that they made a good decision,” said Michaud. Michaud, who was a state champion wrestler during his senior year at Pine Ridge High School, made his name as a fighter while attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. While studying to complete his degree in journalism, Michaud competed as a wrestler for the Division-I Jack Rabbits and made short work of the regional amateur and professional MMA scene. After turning pro he would take fights for the Victory Fighting Championship and the Dakota Fighting Championship organizations before being called up to the highest levels at the UFC.

Since being in the UFC Michaud has lost gone 1-2 losing his first fight of his career to Jingliang Li at 170lbs, wining his 155lb UFC debut against Garrett Whitely, and dropping his most recent fight to top Canadian prospect Oliver Aubin-Mercier via rear naked choke in the third round. In each of the three showings Michaud has brought the fight to his opponents and pushing the action, an attribute the UFC covets in its athletes. Despite having a losing record in the UFC the Pine Ridge native still boasts a professional record of 8-2. While in the UFC the wrestling based product of the MMA Lab in Glendale, AZ has shown an improvement in both his conditioning and standup striking which may have contributed to the new contract.
