The economic development corporation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is working on plans for a large housing and commercial project.

Ho-Chunk Inc. wants to develop 200 acres along the Missouri River in South Sioux City. The Flatwater Crossing project would include housing, retail and public spaces.

"We're taking a real leap of faith and financial risk to consider this," Ho-Chunk President and CEO Lance Morgan, a tribal member, told The Sioux City Journal. "We think it's going to be really viable."

Details are expected to be announced next month. Ho-Chunk Inc. already operates a business, Flatwater Metals, nearby and local officials are anticipating growth in that area of the city.
