The Seminole Tribe of Florida has long rallied around a large oak tree that is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Council Oak Tree sits on the reservation in Hollywood. It was the site where tribal leaders formed their present-day government in 1957.

Tribal leaders return to the tree for historic occasions, like the signing of key agreements. They also take their oaths of office there after every election.

The tree was added to the national list in 2012, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
