The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma will be honoring activist Suzan Shown Harjo. Harjo has been a leader in repatriation, cultural preservation, sacred site and offensive mascot issues for decades. In recognition of her efforts, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House in November and now she will be honored by her own tribe on Friday afternoon.

"The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes is pleased to welcome tribal member and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Suzan Shown Harjo with a homecoming celebration," a statement read. "Harjo is a Native American activist who has worked tirelessly to protect the sacred rights of Native American people, art and language." The ceremony takes place at 4pm at the Concho Community Hall in Concho. A meal will be served at 5:30pm. Related Stories:
