President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed youth from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to the White House on Thursday. Tribal youth made a big impression on the Obamas during their visit to the North Dakota portion of the reservation in June. The couple spent about an hour talking to them about their challenges and successes. "They feel like my own," the president said on June 13. "And you should be proud of them -- because they’ve overcome a lot, but they’re strong and they’re still standing, and they’re moving forward." During the visit, the Obamas invited tribal youth to visit the nation's capital. So 18 of them -- including six from the June meeting -- took the couple up on the offer and were greeted at the Oval Office by the president and the first lady yesterday morning.

Afterwards, the couple treated the youth to lunch at one of their favorite places in town. The group enjoyed hamburgers from Good Stuff Eatery and pizza from We the Pizza on Capitol Hill.
