The Comanche Nation and the Comanche Indian Veterans Association are providing new gravestones for the tribe's Code Talkers.

Some 14 tribal members served as Code Talkers during World War II. They used the Comanche language to transmit unbreakable messages.

"They need to be recognized," George Red Elk, the commander of the veterans association, said at the gravestone dedication ceremony for Wellington Mihecoby, who died in 1975, The Farmington Daily-Times reported.

Mihecoby's new gravestone reflects the Congressional Gold Medals and the Congressional Silver Medals that Congress bestowed on the tribe and its Code Talkers.
