Bruce Sunchild, a former chairman of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana, is facing more criminal charges. Sunchild is accused of stealing funds from the Rocky Boy Tribal Health Clinic, the Associated Press reported. He allegedly asked the clinic's director to cut $12,500 worth of checks. He's also being accused of tax evasion, the AP said. That's in addition to the theft and bribery charges to which he previously agreed to plead guilty. The change-of-plea hearing has now been delayed to November 10 on account of the new indictment, the AP reported. At least a dozen people from the tribe have been charged since federal prosecutors began focusing on corruption in Indian Country through an effort known as the Guardians Project. Overall, at least 24 cases have been filed since late last year, putting Montana on top a nationwide list of judicial districts with the most government corruption prosecutions. Get the Story:
