The recently recognized Tejon Tribe of California will close its enrollment next month.

The tribe placed a legal notice in The Los Angeles Times on August 17. It states that membership applications will be accepted until September 17.

According to the notice, membership is based on a Bureau of Indian Affairs roll from December 1915. Lineal descent from the roll is required.

Citing a past mistake, former assistant secretary Larry Echo Hawk restored the tribe to the list in January 2012. The Office of Inspector General at the Interior Department said he did so without regard to any sort of "discernible process."
