The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York gained more support for a land claim settlement. St. Lawrence County agreed to sign onto the agreement, which identifies about 4,800 acres that the tribe will be able to acquire and add to the reservation. In exchange, local governments will receive a share of revenue sharing payments from the state. “They need land. They win. We need money. We win,” county administrator Karen M. St. Hilaire told The Watertown Daily Times. The tribe still needs to finalize the agreement, which has been controversial on and off the reservation. Get the Story:
