The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut broke ground on the first of 15 chain restaurants it will be bringing to New England.

The Arooga's Grille House and Sports Bar will be located on the reservation, not far from the Mohegan Sun. It's part of the tribe's effort to diversify its economic holdings.

“The tribe’s franchise agreement with Arooga’s is part of a well-considered diversification effort," Chairman Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown said in a press release. "Any good portfolio is diversified, and the Mohegan Tribe will continue to thrive through a range of businesses outside of gaming."

The 9,000 square-foot eatery is due to open in March 2015.
