Shoni Schimmel, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, has been drafted by the Atlanta Dream.

Schimmel was selected in the first round, eighth overall. She is the third Native American player to be drafted into the WNBA.

“I think of myself as very different, because I did come off the reservation,” Schimmel told The New York Times. “Not many people are doing what I’ve done.”

Schimmel played four years for the University of Louisville.
