Prosecutors in Butte County, California, are offering a deal to people who have been indicted in connection with a protest at the Berry Creek Rancheria.

Prosecutors charged 24 people with felony vandalism, a charge that carries prison time. The deal would result in misdemeanor convictions for 22 defendants, requiring them to serve probation, pay restitution and stay off tribal property.

The defendants are accused of vandalizing the offices of the Tyme Maidu Tribe. The May 16, 2013, incident was linked to disenrollment proceedings against more than 70 people.

Subsequently, four people who participated in the protest were disenrolled.
