Poarch Band contributes $250K to political action committees

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians donated $250,000 to three political action committees in Alabama last month.

The tribe donated the money on February 26. The next day, the committees shared $250,000 with Joe Hubbard, a Democrat who is running for state attorney general.

Hubbard, who serves as a state senator, is seeking to defeat incumbent Attorney General Luther Strange. Strange has claimed the state has authority on the reservation.

"The Poarch Creek Indian tribe is under federal jurisdiction," Hubbard told ALLive. "At the end of the day, if they are a federally recognized tribe, whatever we think about them here in Alabama, there's not a whole lot we can do about it."
