Maine tribes criticize state for pulling out of fishing agreement

Tribal leaders are criticizing the state of Maine for abruptly pulling out of a fishing agreement.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point and the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township were near a deal to address elver fishing. But talks ended after legal issues were raised by Attorney General Janet Mills.

The Penobscot Nation would have been covered by the agreement. Chief Kirk Francis said Mills should be investigated for her handling of the deal.
