The Spirit Lake Nation of
North Dakota won't be holding a recall election on Friday after all.
Tribal members in the Saint Michael district went to the polls last week in a recall against Mardell Lewis. But since the vote was a tie, the tribe scheduled a second election.
Chairman Russ McDonald, however, canceled the vote. He said the tribal constitution requires a majority vote to recall a council leader, something that didn't happen in this case.
Lewis was accused of abusing her authority and mistreating her constituents, charges that she denies.
