IHS approves service areas for three newly recognized tribes





The Indian Health Service has approved service areas for three recently recognized tribes.

The service delivery area for the Shinnecock Nation includes Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York. The tribe gained recognition in October 2008 after going through the Bureau of Indian Affairs federal recognition process.

The service delivery area for the Tejon Tribe is Kern County in California. The tribe was placed on the list of federally recognized entities in December 2011.

The service delivery area for the Wilton Rancheria is Sacramento County in California. The tribe was placed on the list of federally recognized entities in June 2009 following litigation against the federal government.
