Agua Caliente Band waiting for next step in water rights suit

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in California is awaiting the next step in its water rights lawsuit.

The tribe sued the
Coachella Valley Water District and the Desert Water Agency to quantify its rights in the Coachella Valley. The tribe wants a role in protecting the water supply, which is accuses the districts of mismanaging.

“I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘you’re right, the water doesn’t taste the same,’ whether I’m at the gym or the grocery store,” Chairman Jeff Grubbe told The Palm Springs Desert Sun. “Just the fact that we’ve brought these issues forward and want to address them now, that’s a good example of our stewardship.”

The districts are disputing the suit. Hearings have yet to be scheduled.
