Montana creates program to help tribes with language efforts

Tribes will be able to tap into $2 million in funding as part of the new Montana Indian Language Preservation pilot program.

Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy (D), a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, sponsored SB 342. He wants to ensure tribes can pass on their languages to the next generation.

The eight tribes in the state must submit proposals by September 30. The money is to be divided equally.
