Crow Tribe wins BIA approval for coal development agreement

The
Bureau of Indian Affairs
has approved a coal development agreement for the Crow Tribe of Montana.
The tribe is working with
Cloud Peak Energy
to extract coal from the reservation. The deposit is estimated to contain 1.4 billion tons.
"The tribe's large coal resources offer significant potential for good-paying jobs and a diversified source of revenue for essential Tribal Government services,"
Chairman Darrin Old Coyote said in a press release
