Fashion designer Patricia Michaels of Taos Pueblo will be appearing on the finale of Project Runway.

Michaels made history as the first Native designer to appear on the show. She'll be making history again as one of the final four contestants to present a collection at New York Fashion Week.

Throughout the season, Michaels won praise for her unique style and innovative techniques. Despite never winning a show challenge, she outlasted most of her competitors and spent a day in Paris, France, designing her look for Thursday's episode.

The judges weren't impressed though. But model Heidi Klum made a strong case for putting Michaels through to the finale, citing the surprise factor.

Michaels and the other three finalists were given $10,000 to design a collection of 12 looks for New York Fashion Week. Show mentor Tim Gunn will be visiting Michaels at her home on the reservation in preparation for the last challenge.
