Posted: Thursday, April 11, 2013
The
Navajo Nation Council is considering a bill that would impose a 2 percent sales tax on junk food sold on the
Navajo Nation.
Delegate Jonathan Nez is co-sponsoring the bill. He said he has lost 100 pounds by changing his diet and exercising more.
“We are a sovereign nation. We could really take charge and provide an example for other tribal communities by promoting this type of initiative," Nez said at a committee meeting, The Navajo Post reported.
The committee voted to hold a working session to discuss the bill further.
