Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians embroiled in dispute

Posted: Thursday, March 14, 2013
A leadership dispute within the
Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians
of California appears to have no resolution in sight.
One group is controlled by Nancy Ayala and other is run by Reggie Lewis. Each claims to have four council members although one member, Charles Sargosa, apparently sits on both councils.
The dispute has its roots in the disenrollments of dozens of members from the tribe. Others have been sanctioned, but not removed, meaning they cannot participate in meetings or vote in elections.
