The Oklahoma Senate voted 26-20 to approve a bill aimed at improving oversight at the unfinished American Indian Cultural Center and Museum in Oklahoma City.

The Native American Cultural and Educational Authority oversees the museum. Senate Bill 511 places the authority under the Oklahoma Historical Society, which would be allowed to appoint an entirely new board for the museum.

The museum sits unfinished despite years of work. According to The Tulsa World, the facility has received $97 million in state funds, nearly $15.7 million in federal funds and $8 million from other sources.
