Agencies reach memorandum of understanding for sacred sites

Four Cabinet secretaries signed a memorandum of understanding to protect sacred sites.

The Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Energy and Interior agreed to collaborate on sacred site policies for the next five years. The agencies will consult with tribes, create a training program for federal employees, launch a website and establish management practices.

"The President is insistent that these sacred sites be protected and preserved: treated with dignity and respect. That is also my commitment as Secretary of USDA," Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a press release. "I know my fellow Secretaries share in this commitment. We understand the importance of these sites and will do our best to make sure they are protected and respected."
