Newly organized First Nation faces flood of enrollment requests

The newly organized Qalipu First Nation of Newfoundland has been hit with more than 60,000 membership applications, CBC News reports.

The Mi'kmaq Band expected 11,000 members. But tens of thousands more are seeking to join in order to secure benefits under Canada's Indian Act.

"A lot were - are - embellished or thought to be embellished, and they will be audited," Liz LaSaga, a council member, told CBC.
