The
Tule River Tribe of California hosted a ceremony for students in the Title VII Indian Program.
More than 100 middle and high school students from two school districts are part of the program. They were recognized for good grades, attendance and behavior, The Porterville Recorder reported.
“If you don’t go to school, it’s difficult. On the other hand, when you have an education, it opens up to lots of opportunities — more jobs and opportunities in life,” Treasurer Michele McDarment told students, the paper reported. “Stay on track. Have goals set and be persistent, and in the end, you will be pretty satisfied with what you accomplish.”
The tribe has hosted the event for 35 years.
