Two attorneys whom the Miccosukee Tribe has accused of fraud are facing two ethics investigations by the Florida Bar, The Miami Herald reported.

Guy Lewis, a former U.S. Attorney, and Michael Tein, another former federal prosecutor, have represented the tribe and its members. The ethics probes stem from a wrongful death case involving two tribal members.

One probe reportedly will determine whether Lewis and Tein failed to turn in documents related to the case. The second involves a request for the judge to step aside due to alleged bias against Native Americans.

“Of course we’ve conducted ourselves ethically,” Tein told the Herald.

The tribe sued Lewis and Tein in state court this week, accusing them of charging excessive fees.
