Omaha Tribe implements sex offender registration system

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska is the latest in Indian Country to have "substantially" implemented a sex offender registration system.

The tribe has complied with Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. Its registration system is available online.

Tribes that didn't develop their own systems automatically cede authority on sex offenders to the state. However, most states failed to comply with the law by a July deadline.

Tribes in Public Law 280 states weren't allowed to develop their own systems.
