School district sues over San Pasqual Band land-into-trust
Posted: Monday, December 12, 2011
A public school district in southern California has filed a lawsuit to block a
land-into-trust application for the
San Pasqual Band of Mission
Indians.
The
Bureau of Indian Affairs
approved the application on January 4. The tribe plans to use nine acres for a gas station and a commercial development.
The Valley Center-Pauma Valley School District filed an administrative appeal but it was sent on February 24, past the 30-day deadline. The district followed up by filing a lawsuit in federal court in September.
The tribe has filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit.
