Echo Hawk refuses to meet with Indian protesters at forum

Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk refused to meet with a group of Indian protesters in California.

Echo Hawk attended the Native Leadership Forum, which was held on the reservation of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians. Indians who have been disenrolled from the tribes tried to enter the forum and speak with Echo Hawk but were stopped by people who said they were his bodyguards, The Lake County News reported.

Some protesters were allowed to meet with Pacific Regional Director Amy Dutschke and Superintendent Robert Eben of the Southern California Agency, the paper reported.
