The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians dedicated the first of four sculpture on its reservation in Palm Springs, California.
The sculpture was placed at a corner of Section 14, a 640-acre parcel that the tribe considers to be the heart of its reservation. The corner is home to the Sek-hi, a mineral water springs that many say turned Palm Springs into a tourist destination.
“We are intertwined,'' Milanovich said at the dedication ceremony, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported: “We care about Palm Springs. We care about this community as a whole.”
The tribe's land is now home to a casino, a convention center and numerous other developments.
