Editorial: Nisqually ownership of state park a great idea
"Tolmie State Park, with its 1,800 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Nisqually Reach, has been on the state's closure list multiple times.

As state parks and recreation officials have struggled to find a permanent funding source to keep state parks open and accessible to the public, the future of the 105-acre marine day park has been in jeopardy.

Thurston County, too, has struggled financially and eliminated the county parks department in one budget saving move. Much of the work has been absorbed by other county offices.

Now the county, state and Nisqually tribe are in the midst of talks to transfer Tolmie State Park into joint ownership by the county and the tribe.

It’s a great idea."
