Fond du Lac Band chair calls 2009 strong year for tribe
Karen Diver , the chairwoman of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Minnesota, delivered the annual State of the Band address last week.

Diver said the tribe did "OK" in terms of gaming revenue due to the recession. But the tribe was able to complete an expansion of the Black Bear Casino Resort and pay it off in full.

The tribe also started construction on an assisted living building with $5.6 million in stimulus funds. Another $7.3 million is on the way.

“2009 just really felt good in terms of no crises to manage,” Diver said in the address, The Duluth News Tribune reported.
