Scholarship helps Indian law students in South Dakota
The University of South Dakota School of Law has created a scholarship program that seeks to benefit Indian students.

The school received a $70,000 grant from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation in honor of alum Lawrence Piersol, a federal district court judge in South Dakota. Piersol believes American Indians are underrepresented in the legal field.

Indian students who are ranked at the top of their class are eligible for the $7,000 scholarship.

American Indians make up 10 percent of the population in South Dakota but only about 2 percent of the USD population.
