Red Cliff Band worried about spread of deadly fish virus
The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is taking extra steps to prevent the spread of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia, a deadly fish virus.

The tribe is worried the virus could harm one its main sources of food. Nearly all tribal members eat fish from Lake Superior

"Our village, our area here is a fishing village," vice chairman Marvin Defoe told KUWS.

The tribe is testing brook trout and walleye before stocking its fishery. Boats are being sprayed down before they are taken into the water.
