Tigua Tribe rejoins Pueblo council after 329 years
The Tigua Tribe of Texas has rejoined the All Indian Pueblo Council after an absence of 329 years.

The Tiguas used to live in present-day New Mexico but moved to present-day Texas following the 1680 Pueblo Revolt. They sought to rejoin AIPC and were officially welcomed on Monday.

"This is a historic event," Tigua Councilman Jose Lopez told The El Paso Times. "The Tiguas have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time."

The Pueblo tribes formed AIPC in the 1598 to address common issues and to deal with Spanish settlers and other tribes.
