Fort Belknap man shoots mountain lion at home
A man from the Fort Belknap Reservation in Montana shot and killed a mountain lion that was sitting in a tree in his front yard.

Frank Weigand feared for the safety of his 14-year-old daughter and his 12-year-old niece when he fired a shot at the 200-pound animal. "The lion acted like it wasn't scared of nothing," he told The Great Falls Tribune.

A second shot killed the lion, which 28 inches tall and roughly 68 inches long from nose to tail. Fort Belknap Fish and Game officers from the tribe found several house cats in the animal's stomach.

Residents on an off the reservation have reported a rise in mountain lions.
