Yakama Nation holds ceremony to release salmon
The Yakama Nation held a ceremony on Tuesday to release 100 sockeye salmon into a lake in Washington. The release is part of an effort to restore salmon in the Yakima River basin. The tribe will be releasing 1,000 more fish in the coming weeks. The tribe has long depended on salmon but the fish were driven to extinction in places like the Cle Elum Lake after the federal government built dams in the area.
