A city councilor in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is vowing to spend "every day" of his life fighting a proposed bridge by the Muscogee (Creek)
Nation.
The tribe passed legislation to acquire about 63 acres for the project. The bill directs the tribe to ask the Bureau of Indian Affairs to place the land in trust.
The process will likely take years but city councilor Bill Christiansen is ready to battle. "If the Indians are going to build a bridge, where's the money going to come from for the City of Tulsa to expand the infrastructure, the roads, to accommodate the additional traffic?" he asked the Tulsa World.
The bridge would be located near the tribe's recently expanded casino in Tulsa. The city voted to send a letter to the BIA in opposition to the tribe's land-into-trust application.
