House Resources markup on recognition bills
The House Natural Resources Committee will hold a markup session tomorrow on two federal recognition bills

H.R.31 extends recognition to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The Bureau of Indian Affairs, for the first time, backed the bill at a hearing last month.

H.R.1385 extends recognition to the Chickahominy Tribe, the Chickahominy Tribe-Eastern Division, the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, the Rappahannock Tribe, the Monacan Nation, and the Nansemond Tribe. The tribes were the first to greet the Jamestown settlers in the early 1600s.

The markup takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. Two other bills are on the agenda.
