Penobscot Nation elects new legislative delegate
The Penobscot Nation elected Wayne Mitchell as its representative to the Maine Legislature.

Mitchell, 56, said his main goal will be to improve relations with the state. "One of the biggest things facing the tribe and the state is the total breakdown in communication," he told The Kennebec Journal.

Mitchell won't get a vote on legislation but hopes to influence the process and educate colleagues. "We just get legislators up to speed to understand this complex legal document, and they're termed out," he said.

Mitchell replaces Donna Loring, who had served 12 years in the position.
