9th Circuit opinion in Barona Band tax case
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals today issued an opinion in a tax dispute involving the Barona Band of Mission Indians of California.

The unanimous opinion stated that non-Indian entities who perform work for the tribe are not immune from state taxes. The court said the tribe, "as part of its highly lucrative gambling enterprise," marketed a sales tax exemption but that the state's interests outweigh the tribe's.
