Fort Sill Apache Tribe hires lobbying firm
The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma has hired a lobbying firm amid its efforts to obtain a reservation in New Mexico.

The tribe hired American Capitol Group to lobby on "economic development issues and gaming issues," according to a Senate filing on May 16. Tim Stewart, a former chief of staff for the House Resources Committee and a former aide to Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah), is representing the tribe.

The tribe is trying to obtain a reservation proclamation for ancestral land in southern New Mexico. The designation is needed so the tribe can operate a Class II gaming facility on a site that is already in trust but was acquired after 1988.
