Mississippi Choctaws watching elections closely
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is monitoring the 2008 elections very closely, Miko Beasley Denson said.

The tribe's land-into-trust application was rejected under a new policy issued assistant secretary Carl Artman, who is resigning this month. The policy, however, could change under the new president.

Denson said tribes that are part of the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) organization have formed political-action committee to monitor the elections. "We're going to do a report card on all the candidates," Denson said, The Biloxi Sun Herald reported.

The Choctaws have been one of the top political donors. The tribe's former lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, is serving prison time for bank fraud.
