Services for Nathan Hale, Three Affiliated vice chair
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Services will be held on Thursday and Friday for Nathan Hale, the vice chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, also known as the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota.

Hale died on Monday after suffering a heart attack at the age of 58. He continued to attend tribal council meetings even as he was undergoing chemotherapy therapy treatments for cancer.

"He was a good man, a good father and grandfather and a good supporter of the bylaws of the tribal constitution," Chairman Marcus Wells Jr. told The Bismarck Tribune. "He knew his role and did his duty."

The tribe will take some time to decide what to do about the vice chair positions, Wells said.
